Did you know that there is a standard medical mileage rate of 23 cents per mile? The mileage that you can include has to be primarily for, and essential to, medical care.

For example, if you drive 10,000 miles at .23 cents per mile, your medical expenses equal a total of $2,300. If this total is more than 7.5% of your AGI, you can deduct all expenses over that amount.

The standard medical mileage rate is essentially creating your “standard deduction” for your medical expenses versus “itemizing” your medical expenses. I would always compare the two so that you can maximize your deduction.
