For those of you who buy work clothes and are wondering if it’s a write off on your taxes, here are the qualifications it must meet to be a deduction:

1. You must wear them as a condition of your employment.

2. The clothes are NOT suitable for everyday wear.

3. They must be SPECIFICALLY required by your employer.

Good examples would be delivery workers (FedEx), firefighters, healthcare workers, law enforcement officers, letter carriers, professional athletes, and transportation workers.

You CAN also deduct the cost of protective clothing (safety non-slip shoes, safety glasses, hard hats, and work gloves. (carpenters, electricians, and oil field workers..

Of course, it all only matters if you itemize your deductions… which TYPICALLY you will not until you own a house.
